What to put on an electrician's estimate
List the scope circuit by circuit
"Add two 20-amp circuits in the kitchen" is clearer than "Kitchen electrical", and it shows the customer what the price buys.
Show permits and inspections
If the job needs a permit or an inspection, put the fee on its own line and say who arranges it.
Write down what the price assumes
For example, existing wiring in good condition and room in the panel. If what you find is different, the price can change, and the estimate is where you said so.
Line items electricians often use
- Service call
- Labor (per hour)
- Troubleshooting
- Outlet or switch replacement
- Light fixture installation
- Panel work
- Wire and materials
- Permit and inspection fee
Tired of rebuilding the same estimate?
In Koteshen your customer accepts the electrical estimate (a quote there) from the email, and you can take a deposit when they do (Basic plan and up) to cover materials. It then turns into an invoice they can pay by card.
14 days free, no card. Then keep the Free plan or pick one with reminders.
Questions about electrician estimates
Do I put my license number on an estimate?
Rules differ by state, and some require it on paperwork you give customers. Check with your state licensing board, and use the Notes box to print it.
What if I find old wiring when I open the wall?
Say in the Notes box that the price assumes the wiring behind the wall is sound, and tell the customer before you change the scope.
Do I charge sales tax on an electrical estimate?
It depends on your state and on whether you are selling labor, materials or both. Check with your state's tax agency or your accountant. This generator doesn't calculate tax, so add it as its own line if you plan to charge it.
