What to put on a plumbing estimate
Describe the fix, not only the fixture
"Replace 50 gal water heater, new shutoff valve, haul away old unit" tells the customer what they are agreeing to, and it is what you will be held to.
Say what is not included
Permits, drywall repair or a second visit if you open a wall and find something else. If it is not in the estimate, say so in the Notes box.
Put an end date on the price
Fixture and heater prices move. The Valid until date is on the estimate, and the Notes box is where to say what else could change the price.
Line items plumbers often use
- Service call fee
- Labor (per hour)
- Parts and materials
- Drain cleaning
- Water heater installation
- Faucet or fixture replacement
- Leak repair
- Permit fee
Tired of rebuilding the same estimate?
In Koteshen you email the estimate (it is called a quote there) and your customer accepts it online with a click. For a bigger job like a water heater, you can ask for a deposit at that moment (Basic plan and up), then turn the quote into an invoice.

Questions about plumbing estimates
Can a plumbing estimate change after the customer says yes?
It can if the job turns out different from what you could see, such as a hidden leak behind a wall. Say so in the Notes box, and tell the customer before you do extra work, so the customer agrees the new price instead of finding it on the bill.
Should I charge for an estimate?
Some plumbers charge a diagnostic or call-out fee and credit it toward the job, and some do not. Either way, put it on its own line and say whether it comes off the repair price.
Do I charge sales tax on a plumbing estimate?
It depends on your state and on what you are selling. Check with your state's tax agency or your accountant. This generator doesn't calculate tax, so add it as its own line if you plan to charge it.
