What to put on a painting estimate
List every room and surface
"Living room walls and ceiling, hallway walls, trim throughout" tells the customer what is in the price and what is not.
State the coats and the prep
The number of coats, who supplies the paint, and whether the price covers patching and priming.
Name the paint
Brand and finish, if you have agreed them. Customers most often change the paint after they accept a painting estimate.
Line items painters often use
- Interior painting (per room)
- Exterior painting
- Trim and door finishing
- Surface prep and patching
- Paint and supplies
- Ceiling painting
- Cabinet painting
- Deposit received
Tired of rebuilding the same estimate?
In Koteshen you can ask for a deposit the moment a customer accepts your painting estimate (a quote there) online (Basic plan and up), so the paint is covered before you start. It then becomes an invoice they pay by card.
14 days free, no card. Then keep the Free plan or pick one with reminders.
Questions about painting estimates
Should a painting estimate include a deposit?
Many painters ask for one before ordering paint. Show it as a line or in the Notes box, with the balance due, so it is clear before the work begins.
What if the customer adds rooms later?
Make a second estimate for the extra rooms, or note on the first that you price additional rooms separately.
Do I charge sales tax on a painting estimate?
It depends on your state and on whether you are selling services, materials or both. Check with your state's tax agency or your accountant. This generator doesn't calculate tax, so add it as its own line if you plan to charge it.
