What to put on a fencing invoice
Put the footage and the height on the line
"140 linear feet, 6 ft cedar privacy fence" is the number and the product the customer agreed to, in one line.
List gates separately
Gates have their own hardware and labor. Showing them on their own line makes the fence price easy to compare with other quotes.
Mention old fence removal
If you took the old fence down and hauled it away, say so on its own line. It's work the customer sees but forgets to count.
Line items fence contractors often use
- Fence installation (per linear foot)
- Gate
- Posts and concrete
- Removal of old fence
- Materials
- Staining or sealing
- Permit fee
- Deposit received
Tired of rebuilding the same invoice?
In Koteshen you can ask for a deposit when your customer accepts your fencing estimate (Basic plan and up), so the materials are covered, then invoice the balance with a card payment button.

Questions about fencing invoices
Should I charge per linear foot or a flat price?
Per linear foot is common and easy to check. A flat price is simpler for the customer. Use the one you quoted.
Who confirms the property line?
Say in the Notes box who confirmed it. If the customer marked the line, writing that down protects you both.
Do I charge sales tax on fencing?
It depends on your state and on whether you're selling labor, materials or both. Check with your state's tax agency or your accountant. This generator doesn't calculate tax, so add it as its own line if you charge it.
